BMO closes truck finance sale to Stonepeak; C$11 billion of loans move to new Longview Capital Solutions
The rest of the C$14.5 billion book moves in BMO's first fiscal quarter of 2027. BMO keeps a 19.9% stake and will service loans during the transition.

One of North America's largest truck and trailer lenders is now independent.
BMO Financial Group said on Oct. 29 that it closed the sale of its Transportation Finance and Vendor Finance businesses in the U.S. and Canada to infrastructure investor Stonepeak. The business now operates as Longview Capital Solutions.
The numbers
- About 75% of the portfolio, or C$11 billion, transferred at closing.
- The total combined loan and lease book is estimated at C$14.5 billion.
- The remaining balances are expected to move in the first quarter of BMO's fiscal 2027, subject to customary conditions.
- BMO holds a 19.9% interest in the Stonepeak-managed entity that bought the businesses.
- BMO expects the deal to lift its CET1 capital ratio by about 23 basis points in its fiscal fourth quarter of 2026.
What borrowers should expect
Stonepeak describes Longview as one of the largest lenders to the commercial truck and trailer segment. It runs two lines: Longview Transportation Finance and Longview Vendor Finance.
Stonepeak says customers keep the same teams, systems, agreements and service arrangements, with no material operational changes "at this time." Under a transition services agreement, BMO will keep servicing and originating current and future loans on Longview's behalf.
Gary Kempinski is Longview's CEO. Stonepeak senior managing director Will Schleier pointed to the company's "embedded OEM relationships" as a reason for its growth plans.
Why it matters for freight
Equipment finance is how most fleets buy tractors and trailers. A big bank lender moving into a private-capital owner changes who sits across the table on truck loans, even if borrowers see no change yet.
